A fierce, solitary protector of the deep. She guards one of the last ancient civilizations that hold the most valuable treasure to mermaids. Try to steal anything, and you may find yourself as lunch for her toothy companions. She's one of my four contributions to Mermay, a month of mermaids, in 2017. This year I wanted to create a mermaid that represented each of the four main elements; earth, air, fire, and water. Water probably being the easiest to represent, since mermaids are already closely associated with the element. I wanted to show a mermaid in the deep, open ocean. The emptiness behind her, and yet she fears nothing.
